At Begin, a milestone is a skill or impactful experience, big or small, that serves as a meaningful learning moment in a child’s learning journey. For example, recognizing letters and letter sounds, but also discovering the idea that books are magical — we consider both to be equally important milestones at Begin! The milestones that matter go beyond what’s testable or recognized in the classroom. They’re all about holistic development and personal growth.
Our Milestones Are Expansive & Flexible
We know that there are multiple paths to success for every child. To allow for a wider array of outcomes, our expert learning team identified the skills and qualities that tomorrow’s workforce will value most. These insights were then paired with research on learning and development outcomes. From this, we identified key milestones across our 5 C’s Learning Framework: core skills, creativity, critical thinking, curiosity, and character. The result is an expanded guide to milestones for various ages and stages that supports every aspect of a child’s learning journey and development.

Most learning programs focus heavily on traditional academic skills, like reading or math. Many also treat learning as a linear, sequential, one-size-fits-all experience. At Begin, we challenge the culture of comparison and achievement, because we know kids are multidimensional. We design all-encompassing learning programs that focus on both traditional skills and those that can predict future success, like creativity and curiosity. Our milestones give families permission to prioritize progress over perfection and celebrate every moment in a child’s unique learning journey.

Each serves a specific age group and a meaningful set of milestones that come to life through different modes of play. Our programs are designed to deliver valuable life skills through joyful learning and can be experienced individually for subject-based exploration or as comprehensive learning experiences that support multiple milestones at once.
